About Us

The Nursing Science Study Program (PSIK) at FK USU was opened based on the agreement of the Consortium Health Science (CHS) and the deans of the faculties of medicine of state universities throughout Indonesia. FK USU is a faculty of medicine trusted to organize the Nursing Science Study Program (PSIK). Based on the Dean's proposal letter no.1471/PT05.H4/FK/C/.91, the Chancellor's Decree no.1214/PT05.H/SK/C.1991 was issued regarding the Establishment of the PSIK Preparation Committee to prepare for the opening of the PSIK at FK USU. After going through a series of activities involving the CHS and the North Sumatra Provincial Office of the Ministry of Health, the PSIK management structure was formed based on Rector Decree no. 1328/PT.05.H/SK/C.1994, and the PSIK was opened in 1995. However, after running for two semesters, the implementation of the PSIK was stopped regarding the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education no. 471/D/T/1995 because it did not meet the requirements. At that time, FK USU did not have teaching staff with a Bachelor of Nursing (S.Kp) education background. Four years after the termination of the PSIK, the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture through Decree no.116/DIKTI/Kep/1999 dated April 7, 1999, permitted to reopen the Nursing Science Study Program (PSIK) at FK USU. Meanwhile, before achieving the status of a faculty member, USU placed the management of the study program under the responsibility of the USU Faculty of Medicine.
