Students of Group 4 of the Nurse Profession Program, Community Nursing 2 Rotation at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Evi Karota Bukit, S.Kp., MNS., carried out community nursing learning and practice in Neighborhood IV, Tanjung Rejo Subdistrict, Medan Selayang. The activity was part of the professional education process, providing students with direct experience in assessing community health needs, promoting health, preventing disease, and empowering communities in their designated area.

One of the innovations developed by Group 4 students was a QR Code-based digital health education medium titled “Scan untuk Info Kesehatan – Sehat Bersama, Hidup Berkualitas” (Scan for Health Information – Healthy Together, Quality Life). By scanning the QR Code with a smartphone, community members can access health information quickly and conveniently and revisit the information at any time. The medium serves as a supporting tool to ensure that health education is not limited to face-to-face sessions but can also be accessed and utilized by the community on an ongoing basis.

The educational materials cover various promotive and preventive health measures, including disease prevention, maintaining heart health, proper handwashing with soap, regular health check-ups, responsible medication use, and maintaining respiratory health. The materials are also organized into the themes Healthy Family, Healthy Environment, and Healthy Respiratory System. The simple, digitally accessible presentation of information is expected to improve health literacy and encourage community members to adopt clean and healthy living practices in their daily lives.

The activity primarily contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through health promotion, disease prevention, improved health literacy, and community empowerment. It also supports SDG 4: Quality Education through experiential professional learning in the community, as well as SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the use of QR Codes as a digital innovation in health education and promotion.

Through the Community Nursing Rotation, the Faculty of Nursing USU continues to encourage students to integrate professional competencies, health education, digital innovation, and community engagement. The supervision provided by Prof. Dr. Evi Karota Bukit, S.Kp., MNS., together with the active involvement of Group 4 students, demonstrates how Nurse Profession Program education can provide direct benefits to the community while strengthening the Faculty of Nursing USU’s contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
