Students of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKEP USU), participated in a session entitled “Kampus Berdampak & Sustainable Development Goals” as part of the 2026 USU Campus Life Orientation Program for New Students (PKKMB). The session was delivered by Prof. Dr. Evi Karota Bukit, S.Kp., MNS., CIIQA, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. WIB. The session introduced students to the concept of Kampus Berdampak, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, and the role of higher education institutions and students in making meaningful contributions to community development. The session also aimed to foster students’ awareness, concern, and responsibility in supporting the achievement of the SDGs through both academic and non-academic activities.

In her presentation, Prof. Evi explained that Kampus Berdampak represents a higher education paradigm that encourages universities to become centers for addressing various national challenges through education, research, innovation, and community service. Students are expected not merely to be knowledge seekers but also to develop as problem solvers, innovators, and agents of change capable of creating tangible benefits. At USU, this approach is implemented through various programs, including MBKM, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), digital learning, student exchanges, research and innovation, Thematic Community Service Programs (KKN Tematik), partner villages, MSME empowerment, public health education, and environmental conservation.

The discussion on the Sustainable Development Goals further emphasized the important role of students in achieving sustainable development. The SDGs consist of 17 global goals aimed at addressing poverty, protecting the environment, reducing inequality, and improving community well-being. For FKEP USU students, the SDGs are particularly relevant to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, through efforts to improve physical and mental health, and SDG 4: Quality Education, through quality, inclusive, and accessible education. These contributions can begin with simple actions, such as adopting healthy lifestyles, actively participating in learning, developing a reading culture, engaging in research, and taking part in community service activities.

Through this session, FKEP USU students are expected to understand that achieving the SDGs is not solely the responsibility of governments or institutions but also requires the active involvement of individuals. Nursing education offers broad opportunities to contribute to health, education, equality, community empowerment, and sustainable development. With the spirit of “Small Actions, Big Impact,” students are encouraged to begin making contributions through simple actions and habits carried out consistently, creating positive impacts on the campus environment, society, Indonesia, and the world.
