The Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKep USU) held a World Class University (WCU) session entitled “Beyond the Algorithm: Why AI Cannot Replace the Art of Nursing” on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB) via Zoom Meeting. The activity was part of FKep USU’s efforts to broaden global perspectives and enhance the academic community’s understanding of technological developments in nursing.

The session featured Prof. Dr. Waraporn Kongsuwan from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, as a guest lecturer. Participants gained insights into the relationship between the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and nursing practice, particularly the importance of preserving humanistic values, empathy, communication, and professional touch in nursing care.
The WCU session was hosted by Roxsana Devi Tumanggor, S.Kep., Ns., MNurs (MntlHlth). Through this international academic activity, FKep USU continues to promote the development of student and faculty competencies through knowledge exchange with nursing education institutions at the global level.

The activity aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education through efforts to strengthen educational quality, broaden international perspectives, and develop the academic competencies of the FKep USU community. It also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening international academic networks and collaboration in nursing education.
