Lecturer of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Evi Karota, SKp., MNS., CIIQA, participated in the international scientific forum “The Road to 2030 and Beyond: UN SDGs and AI,” held as part of the Springer Nature Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Programme. The forum brought together academics, researchers, practitioners, scientific editors, and policymakers from various countries to discuss the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event featured international experts, including Prof. Florence Hudson from Columbia University, New York, United States, and Prof. Arthur G.O. Mutambara from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Discussions highlighted the use of AI as a strategic instrument for advancing research, higher education, healthcare services, and evidence-informed decision-making.

For the Faculty of Nursing USU, participation in this international forum is part of its efforts to strengthen academic capacity and internationalize higher education. The global knowledge and perspectives gained through the forum can be utilized in curriculum development, learning innovation, nursing research, community engagement, and the strengthening of academic policies that are responsive to technological developments and public health needs.
The activity contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through strengthening evidence-based healthcare research and innovation; SDG 4: Quality Education through enhancing lecturers’ capacity and integrating AI and SDG perspectives into nursing education; and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the utilization of digital technology and AI in research, academic innovation, and the development of higher education ecosystems.
Furthermore, participation in this global forum supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by expanding international networks and opportunities for collaboration in research, scientific publications, education, and knowledge exchange.
Through active participation in international scientific forums, the Faculty of Nursing USU continues to strengthen its contribution to the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education while supporting the implementation of the SDGs within Universitas Sumatera Utara.
