STIKes Arta Kabanjahe organized an Expert Lecture on the theme “Emergency Orthopedic Nursing Care,” featuring the Dean of FKep USU, Dr. Dudut Tanjung, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.KMB, as the speaker. The activity served as a platform for knowledge sharing and strengthening students’ competencies in understanding emergency orthopedic care.

In his presentation, Dr. Dudut Tanjung discussed emergency orthopedic management, ranging from initial assessment using the Airway, Breathing, and Circulation (ABC) approach and physical examination to the management of conditions such as fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, and spinal injuries. The material also covered trauma management principles, including bleeding control, pain management, immobilization of the injured area, and prevention of further injury and disability.

In addition to emergency care, participants gained an understanding of various nursing interventions for orthopedic patients, including splinting, cast and traction care, wound care, pain management, and range-of-motion and muscle-strength exercises. The activity is expected to strengthen students’ understanding in providing appropriate and evidence-based nursing care.

The Expert Lecture also supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through the enhancement of future healthcare professionals’ competencies and SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the strengthening of discipline-based learning and academic experience. The activity also reflects the spirit of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration and knowledge exchange among health education institutions.
