Community and Psychiatric Nursing Department
Department Definition
Community and Psychiatric Nursing is a branch of nursing science that combines community nursing and psychiatric nursing. Community nursing is the unity of nursing practice and public health practice whose application aims to improve and maintain public health, with an approach to high-risk groups such as high-risk pregnant women, the elderly, malnourished toddlers and infectious disease patients. While psychiatric nursing is a form of professional service that is an integrated part of health care through applying the theory of human behaviour as a science and using oneself therapeutically as a tip.

Work Program
The Work Program of the Department of Mental and Community Nursing consists of:
A. To increase the number and quality of lecturers in the Department of Mental and Community Nursing.
Increasing the number and quality of lecturers of the Department of Mental Nursing and Community, Family and Gerontic Nursing with specialist and doctoral level qualifications.
Facilitating and supporting the achievement of departmental lecturers with doctoral nursing qualifications through the Doctoral Continuing Education Program
Facilitating and supporting the further education of lecturers with qualifications of Mental Nursing Specialist and Community Nursing Specialist through Specialist Education.
Facilitating and motivating department lecturers to obtain lecturer certificates.
Facilitating and motivating lecturers to increase the functional position of lecturers for the level of: Lector, Head Lector, Professor in the next 5 years.
To assist the Dean in structuring the functions and duties of the lecturer staff of the Department of Mental and Community Nursing in accordance with the provisions of the Faculty or University based on the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and support, which are realized in the Lecturer Workload.
Coordinating with the Dean, Vice Dean II, Head of Administration in determining and optimizing the main work duties of the Head of Department and Secretary of the Department in accordance with the provisions.
Organizing training programs for mental and community nursing department lecturers in accordance with their fields of expertise to support the learning activity process.
Participate in cross-faculty collaborations with reputable Faculties of Nursing, at home and abroad, as part of the department's development. Especially by facilitating the process of receiving scholarships and the continuity of lecturers' studies to take part in the Doctoral Program.
Facilitating lecturer staff of the Mental and Community Nursing department in realizing incentive funds for doctoral education assistance for lecturers.
B. Increase the number of research and community service departments
Synchronizing the research and service roadmap of the mental and community nursing department teaching staff with the faculty road map according to the scientific field in 2021 - 2026.
Contributing to international and national conference activities from the results of research by lecturers of the mental nursing department and community nursing including family and gerontic nursing every year.
Participate in international and national conference activities from the results of community service of lecturer staff of the mental nursing department and community nursing including family and gerontic nursing every year.
Motivating lecturers to improve their ability to speak and write foreign languages.
Motivating and planning the research of Kep. Jikom department lecturers from various funding sources including funding sources from the Faculty of Nursing itself.
Informing the department's teaching staff to involve undergraduate students who are taking Thesis MK and S2 students in Thesis MK in the research activities of the Mental and Community Nursing department lecturers.
Recruit and record students who participate in research in accordance with the knowledge of the lecturer staff of the Department of Mental and Community Nursing.
Increase the number of lecturer research activities funded from Higher Education / International.
Increase the number of lecturer research activities funded from BOPTN / PNBP.
Increase the number of community service activities funded by Higher Education/International.
Increase the number of community service activities funded by BOPTN/PNBP.
Participate in training for lecturers in preparing research proposals to make it easier for lecturers to make research.
Coordinating department members to participate in community service programs with grants from the Universitas Sumatera Utara/ DRTPM.
Coordinating and motivating lecturer staff of the mental and community nursing department to prepare drafts of research and community service proposals.
C. Increase the Department's Scientific Publications
Increasing the number of research results of lecturers who will be published in national journals accredited by the Higher Education and international reputations indexed by Scopus, WOS, DOAJ and Copernicus.
Coordinate with Vice Dean II related to the administrative process of receiving research publication assistance funds in accredited journals and reputable international journals.
Coordinating lecturer staff to register and manage HaKI owned (if any), as well as identifying scientific work that can be registered as HaKI work (Textbook / Dictate, Practicum Guidebook, Skills Lab, Others) for the fields of mental nursing, community nursing, family nursing, gerontic nursing.
Facilitate the process and procedure for filing HaKI for Nursing department lecturers. Mental and Community Nursing, Family Nursing and Gerontic Nursing in accordance with the provisions.
D. Enhancing Departmental Cooperation
Develop a departmental cooperation program with related institutions/institutions which is a follow-up to the USU Faculty of Nursing's umbrella of cooperation.
Exploring cooperation across nursing faculties outside Sumatra Island for the development of Holistic Care-oriented Nursing Clinics such as mental health nursing counseling, elderly day care, and family counseling.
Exploring cooperation for the development of the Mental and Community Nursing Department's target areas equipped with agreements and institutional cooperation umbrellas covering aspects of mental nursing, community nursing, family nursing, and gerontic nursing.
Conduct departmental cooperation with related institutions both nationally and internationally for the development of Mental, Family, Gerontic and Community Nursing Programs.
Facilitate and support lecturers of the mental and community nursing department and actively participate as speakers / speakers / facilitators / thesis / dissertation examiners / visiting lecturers / and or other scientific activities outside the USU Faculty of Nursing.
