The Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has achieved a significant academic accomplishment with seven lecturers being selected as recipients of the 2026 USU TALENTA Research Grant under the Reputation Research Group scheme. The award was officially established through Rector's Decree No. 3373/UN5.1.R/SK/HK.03/2026, dated July 18, 2026. The TALENTA Research Program reflects USU's commitment to strengthening high-impact research and fostering innovations that address societal needs.
The seven Faculty of Nursing lecturers are leading the following strategic research projects:
- Prof. Dr. Evi Karota, S.Kp., MNS – Development of the Aktive-Teka (Therapeutic Nursing Activity) Model Based on Ethnonursing to Improve Self-Management among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Primary Healthcare.
- Prof. Dr. Reni Asmara Ariga, S.Kp., MARS – An Integrated Nurse Workforce Management Model to Optimize Distribution and Improve Hospital Service Performance Using Artificial Intelligence in Support of the SDGs and Indonesia's Asta Cita Development Agenda.
- Jenny Marlindawani Purba, S.Kp., MNS., Ph.D. – The Effectiveness of a Comprehensive Nursing Innovation Program in Preventing Dementia and Psychosocial Problems among Older Adults in Medan.
- Dr. Siti Zahara Nasution, S.Kp., MNS – The Poda Na Lima Model as an Implementation of Transcultural Nursing to Prevent Stunting in Mandailing Natal.
In addition, other funded research projects include:
- Dr. Siti Saidah Nasution, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat – The Effectiveness of Vibratory Emesis Massage Nursing Intervention in Reducing Nausea, Vomiting, and Improving Comfort among Pregnant Women at Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis USU Hospital and Kampung Baru Community Health Center, Medan.
- Dr. Rika Endah Nurhidayah, S.Kp., M.Pd. – An Interprofessional Education (IPE) Model in Teaching Hospitals.
- Diah Lestari Nasution, SST., M.Keb – Development of an Integrated Mental Health Counseling Model within Antenatal Care (ANC) Services at Bromo Community Health Center, Medan.
These achievements represent the Faculty of Nursing's tangible contribution to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The funded research strongly supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through innovations in nursing care, disease prevention, elderly healthcare, maternal and child health, and improvements in community well-being. Research focusing on strengthening healthcare workforce capacity and interprofessional education also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education, while projects addressing the needs of vulnerable populations and incorporating culturally responsive healthcare approaches reinforce SDG 5: Gender Equality by improving healthcare services for women and underserved communities.
The success of these seven Faculty of Nursing lecturers in securing the 2026 TALENTA Research Grant is expected to generate impactful innovations that benefit society, enhance USU's academic reputation, and promote multidisciplinary research collaboration in support of inclusive and sustainable healthcare development. Through research driven by community needs and grounded in evidence-based nursing, the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Sumatera Utara, remains committed to delivering practical solutions that contribute to achieving the SDGs at the local, national, and global levels.
